{2019}* Diwali Lakshmi Ganesh Puja Vidhi Samagri – Deepavali 2019 Puja
Mahurat Time & Calendar: With Diwali around the
corner, preparations for the upcoming Diwali celebrations are rife. People from
all over India and elsewhere, who celebrate Diwali, always hold the holy
procession in the name of Lord Ganesha and Shri Lakshmi, who is duly worshipped
on the day of Diwali.
The
puja (holy offering) that is held on Diwali is done for many reasons. The
Lakshmi puja or the worshipping of the goddess of wealth, fortune and
prosperity, is, however, the main event of Diwali in the Northern and Western
parts of India. Whereas, the Ganesh puja too is of equally importance, who is
worshipped as the God who removes obstacles, and is the patron of art and
science, someone whose intellect and wisdom are the epitome of knowledge.
Mahalakshmi being the crucial part of the holy procession on the day of Diwali,
there is a lot that needs to be done for the celebration. It is popularly
believed that Shri Lakshmi should be welcomed to a clean surrounding, for which
people make sure their houses are clean and spotless for Diwali.
Also,
people worship the broom and are offered Haldi that is turmeric and Sindoor
which is vermilion. Also, lights are lit up across the house and the
surrounding area, for it is believed that Shri Lakshmi’s path towards one’s
home is guided even in the night. Therefore, the festival of Diwali also sees
millions of homes lit up with clay lamps, candles, lights, lanterns, etc. There
are other beliefs to as to why Diwali is celebrated and is monikered as the
Festival of Lights.

Many
celebrate Diwali as a mark of victory over evil and its darkness. It marks the
victory of Lord Rama, the prince of Ajodhya, over the demon king of Lanka,
Ravana. It is believed that when Lord Rama defeated the demon king and returned
to his kingdom, it was night time. Therefore, to welcome him with what he duly
deserved the entire kingdom was lit up with clay lamps and lanterns to guide
him home, in a royal procession.
Let’s
get back to the point of discussion, the Vidhi for the Shri Lakshmi and Shri Ganesh
puja that is to be held on the day of Diwali.
The
term Vidhi in Sanskrit refers to the English term ‘law’. Every puja held in the
name of the Hindu gods need to follow a strict vidhi for the proper completion
of the procession. These laws have been mentioned in the ancient books of
Hinduism, composed of ancient monks, for people to follow. It gives a person a
direction to go ahead with certain things, like puja, to have it done properly.
Therefore, following the vidhi or law is very important. It is not applicable
in just holy processions and worshipping, but also in real life. It reflects
our perspectives and actions.

Let’s
go step by step on what is needed to be done during the Ganesh Lakshmi Puja
§
Fasting:
On
the day of the Ganesha Lakshmi Puja, the Kuber puja and the
Bahi-khata puja is also done side by side. A person can either fast the entire
day or can avoid the fast but consume only vegetarian food. Also, the fasting
can be done in two ways itself. One is the Nirjal Upvas (Fasting) that requires
a person to stay dry-throated, without a drop of water throughout the day. Here
Nir means No and Jal means Water precisely. The second one is the Phal Aahar
Upvas (Fasting), meaning a person can consume fruits during the day and not
have any other food items. Here, Phal means Fruits and Aahar means Eating. It
can be consumed only with milk depending on the health and willpower of the
person who is fasting.
§
Mahurat:
Not
just the Diwali puja, but every puja is done on a precise time. This fixed time
or moment of the day or night is called Mahurat or Shubh Mahurat. Shubh means
good and Mahurat, meaning time, in simpler terms. The Diwali puja mahurat is
considered based on the Lagna, Pradosh time and Amavasya Tithi. Lagna means the
degree of the rasi or zodiac sign and the nakshatra i.e. constellation, rising
above the eastern horizon at the time of one’s birth. Pradosh means the
